Would the MLP movie be very different if the Storm King had stuck closer to his concept art?
The Storm King was originally much more elemental in his concept art, as seen here. It was intended that he would be a literal force of nature. Even as development advanced, he became more lupine at first, as seen here, before they decided to make him more bipedal, as seen here. Even then it's clear he was very much meant to be a savage and elemental creature, a force to be reckoned with in his own right.
In what ways do you think the MLP movie would have been different if they had stuck with this original interpretation of the Storm King?
Do you think the character would have been better received? Less well received?
Do you think the movie would have preformed better critically? Less well?
Do you think that fans would have enjoyed the movie more or less?
A big complaint with the Storm King that I have seen is that he seems redundant to the plot, with Tempest serving as an admirable main villain and the Storm King as something of an after-thought. A reason for the plot to unfold the way it does that's not really developed or explored properly in the movie itself. Do you think that would be a little easier to accept had the Storm King been this vicious creature of raw power, more elemental force than thinking and feeling character?
