Hi all, I want to breed my Mocha next year (hopefully) to a very awesome AQHA Palomino stallion Empirical Skip; But, there was something in the contract that kind of raised a red flag but this being the first time dealing with contract breeding, a family friend bred their mares yearly with their stallion and didn't breed any outside mares. Anyway in the contract it says the stallion owner would not be liable if my mare was stolen or to put it exactly
"M.O. agrees that except in the event of S.O. gross negligence or willfull misconduct, S.O. and it's officers, members, employees, directors, family, or agents shall not be liable for any direct, special, incidental, indirect, or consequential damages, injury, or death to mare (or foal) arising out of any activity pursuant to this agreement. M.O. understands that engaging in equine activities including breeding a mare or boarding a mare (or foal) at another farm or facility is an inherently dangerous activity and that by doing so mare and/or foal are exposed to dangers both known and unknown and present a risk of injury no matter how much training they have and no matter what level of experience S.O. has and no matter what the situation. Theft of horses is possible anywhere they reside, and S.O. is not responsible for loss or theft of mare (or foal). M.O. agrees to defend, indemnify, and hold S.O. and it's officers, members, employees, directors, family, or agents harmless from and against any and all claims, demands, judgements, loss, liability, or damage including attorneys fees or costs that S.O. may incur arising out of or in any way connected with M.O. presence on or use of S.O. facility or the breeding services provided pursuant to this agreement."
M.O. is Mare owner, S.O. is stallion owner, now I don't understand why they would put on there that I couldn't hold them liable for the theft of my horse if they were responsible for taking care of her? Is this normal in stallion contracts for live cover? I don't know why but it just seemed off for me but then I don't have experience with breeding contracts.
Any help will be greatly appreciated! Also any advice on other "red flags" I should look for in the contract would be awesome too
Thank you!
So I'm going to go crazy about our current hay situation and would love some advice. We live in Northern Florida so our hay choices are...poor. Mostly stringy coastal that doesn't have much going on and our climate is rather humid with a lot of rain this time of year. Previously, I was getting 50 lb. bales of coastal delivered until my hay guy started delivering moldy and bur-filled hay. After that, I switched to a much more reliable seller, but the bales are much smaller and cost me $8.50/bale which only last me about two days each so my monthly hay bill is $200 alone. This new seller just started offering great quality big round bales for $80 and I would love to consider making the switch for my wallet and for free feeding.
My horse gets turned out on pasture 10 am - 5 pm and struggles to keep on weight. He gets 1 lb soaked alfalfa in the afternoon along with beet pulp and two flakes of coastal twice a day. In his stall, he has a 12x12 box stall that is always open to a 12x40 private run. I was considering trying to set up a pallet outside to keep the bale off of the ground, but I've never tackled a bale before and don't even know where to start or if this is a viable option.
I'm just starting out learning to trim my boys feet, and I would love to move on to trimming other people's horses in the spring/summer.
What sort of certifications should I get? What sort of insurance should I get? What sort of classes should I take?
I live in a small town, so there are no other barefoot trimmers within 2 hours of me. I'm learning through online research and experience with my boys very different feet.
I don't want to do anything with shoes, and I live in Missouri, USA.
Well I grew up around rodeos. A cousin is a horse dentist, but I don't really interact with him unfortunately. I rode on and off through out my teen and early 20s. I would like to own a horse fit for trail riding in Florida. Maybe something I can take out and camp with? I subbed here but I just see a lot of happy horse lovers showing me how much more fun their having than me :P
