To be specific, whether they'd prefer to be a pony or a human. Which got me thinking, is there a "correct" answer to the question?
As I see it, there are benefits to either choice. On one hand, being a pony comes with benefits in pretty much all scenarios. You can assume to either get some basic magical capacity, the ability to fly (Or at least hover) or an increase in physical strength right off the bat, and with some practice you could improve on whatever trait you got. You'd also benefit from having everything in the pony society made to fit you; You would be one of them, after all.
On the other hand (Or hoof), being human comes with unique cababilities that no pony could mimic. To me, height and dexterity comes to mind. Since they are "my little ponies" we can probably assume ponies, or perhaps the whole world, is smaller than in our world. As a human, you'd probably be a minor giant. You'd also be one of the few (friendly) things with opposable thumbs, giving you a level of sleight of hand that will be hard to match.
On the other hand, being a pony would make you average at best compared to the others, unless you got really lucky. As I said, you can probably not expect to be Rainbow Dash levels of fast or Twilight levels of adept at magic right away, if ever. You'd be a pony among many, and there's a real chance you simply bring nothing noteworthy to the table.
Being a human ensures you would be unique, but in what way is the question. You might be able to knit a mean sweater, but what else can a human actually offer the pony race to make yourself worthwhile that a unicorn or pegasus can't do as well, if not better? And when it comes down to it, just how welcoming would ponies be to a completely unknown race but dropping out of the sky, perhaps litteraly?
What would you like to see in it?
Today, in this thread, we're going to answer a lot of questions. They won't be good answers, but they will still be answers.
Post a question about the world of MLP like "Why is Twilight afraid of quesadillas?" or "Why do ponies have such big eyes?". Other people will answer your question with their bullcrap insightful interpretations!
Hi there! It's Thursday again and that means another chance to talk about what's been happening around here and how you feel about it!
Same as every other time, feel free to discuss whatever it is you'd like regarding our little subreddit good or bad. If you're unhappy we'll try our best to fix whatever problem you're having!
If you want to talk about the MLP fandom in general, that's fine too!
But some people may not want to talk about comics or anything else that hasn't happened yet, so you should be nice and hide those conversations from those people by using the spoiler tag.
If you don't know how it's as easy as making an emote:
[It has ponies!](/spoiler)
Becomes: It has ponies!
And if you're not wanting to discuss the subreddit or community specifically you can also check out the weekly off-topic thread here!!!!!
Fimfiction.net has made a huge impact on my reading habits. Once you find a few authors you like it's a neverending stream of free storytelling. But I've noticed that a few details of the site's app-store-like implementation have affected which stories I choose to read.
Authors there have long known that a good cover image goes a very long way towards getting your story read. Length is important - a longer story is more of a commitment to pick up. I've been surprised to find that chapter length makes a huge difference in my willingness to read a story - I'll happily read a 200,000-word story as long as it's divided into 3,000-word chunks, but a story with only one chapter that's 10,000 words long is a much more difficult sell. I like having each chapter checked off when I'm done with it, making it easy to resume next time I pick up the story. I know Fimfiction has recently implemented a feature that will let you pick up in the middle of a chapter, but that hasn't made a difference in my reading habits. I'm not completely sure why.
I'm curious about your ponyfiction reading habit, if you have one. Do you use Fimfiction, or something else? If you use Fimfiction, do you read it on your computer, on your phone, or both? Does anyone use their feature that lets you download stories in an epub format? Any tricks for finding good authors and stories? What does ponyfiction look like in your life?
Imagine that in season 8, an episode premieres in which Starlight Glimmer's parents arrive in Ponyville.
What should they be like? Who should voice them (assuming that the producers get at least one "special" guest star like Felicia Day or William Shatner)?
As I said I am Toxic-Mario...I mean that would make sense right since this is an AMA and it's in the title. ;) 28 and I been doing comics in the fandom since May 2011 along with some other crossover stuff here and there. Did in fact start any type of art in late 2010 doing dragon art which was 'the thing' to do at the time. Love making my filly comics adding backstories and I am currently undergoing a complete style change on my ponies. Been very outspoken on stuff in the fandom over the years and my love of drawing a certain best gray mare (best pony) and the series everyone seems to hate these days with her. :P
Pretty much have seen almost it all from the early days of the fandom till the present and am preliminarily retired from the convention scene (unsure if I'll come back). Got my Deviantart page, Twitter, Derpi, Online shop, tumblr and a page but the first 2 are the ones I am always most active on especially on twitter during episodes.
Last 2 things...yes I do have a degree in Meteorology from 2011 and I have been storm chasing in the Midwest in 2010 and film/chase around my area of Albany if storms look good. Usually put the videos on twitter right now of storms. Planning a 2-week tornado chase with my best friends in 2018 to go back to the Midwest. Weather jobs has been tricky to get but going back this Fall for a big Hydrology class to really boost my resume. Love forecasting and been now-casting last few years for some fandom people/conventions when big storms are around their area. #2....I love sports....like really really into sports stuff with my sports jerseys and stuff of my teams especially on game days. My twitter is a mess on NFL Sunday and hockey nights.
So I think we got the basics out of the way. There was a lot to cover and wanted to say. Ok AMA I guess. Edit: Little quiet right right now so gonna be mowing lawn and catching sports stuff so will be checking in.
Back when they were still on, both Two And A Half Men and CSI swapped writers for an episode: http://ift.tt/2x7QCiU & http://ift.tt/2wdWXNe
(I also think that this scenario has happened a couple other times, but I'm blanking on what shows were involved)
What if, as a bit of fun, the writers for MLP swapped places for an episode with some other show, one that isn't a kid's cartoon?
What show might be interesting to see take part in this swap?
Supernatural? Rick & Morty? Criminal Minds? Bob's Burgers? What?
Whatever you choose, what kind of MLP episode would the writers of that show make (remember, they have to keep it TV-Y)?
What kind of episode would the MLP team make (they are under no such restrictions)?
Make sure you hire an editor, even if you self-publish. You will not regret it!
This is a weekly event coinciding (mostly) with NPT; off-topic and meta threads will be staggered so this week's off-topic thread is being submitted now and the meta thread will be posted in 12 hours. Next NPT will be the opposite! We do not ask that all off-topic discussion be kept to this submission; it is merely here as a courtesy and you are free to continue off-topic discussion in the comments of other submissions (off-topic submissions, however, are still a no-no).
Sorry for the rant. I don't know if it belongs here, or even allowed, I just... need to tell this, I don't know what to do with this.
Hi there, brony speaking. You know that stereotype from hate subreddits - ugly, obese, stupidly obsessed, like from that "my little brony" CH sketch, but worse? Yeah, this, hits the point. That's me. As brony as it gets.
So, I'm into ponies. As obsessed as one can possibly be. Watching every episode countless times? Check. Having pony posters all over the walls? Check. Pony figures, some of them custom and ridiculously expensive, all over the place, and some more in the drawer because all shelves are used already? Check. Stickers, cups, shirts, buttons, pins, you name it? Check. An evergrowing herd of plushies? Check. One of these "life-size" plushies? Check, sure as hay.
That said, I generally avoided pony conventions and other "brony events". Never gave too much of a thought into it, giving something like "I'm more into ponies than into bronies" as a reply when asked . When I think of it now, it's obvious: I met people like me, and that was no good. Ugly lonely people, desperate for love and acceptance, wearing ridiculous outfits, singing out of tune along the pony songs and generally being "fake it until you make it" happy. There always were some younger and more "normal" folks too, but these tend to stay away from fat creeps.
Did I say that I'm really into ponies? Just to make sure. So, I made a consistent effort to be surrounded by ponies at every given moment of my life. It's kind of pricey, but I have a decent job and no better way to spend what I earn. It was all worth it, for one reason: ponies made me happier. Always.
For so many years (5? 6? I don't remember) finding consolation for my shitty life was so easy. Watch an episode. Listen to a song from an episode. Hug a plush pony. Think of ponies. Cool, now life is so much better! I am a loner, and have always been (friendship lessons did not work, do they ever work if you aren't as cute as those six?), but I had ponies. Ponies were always there for me.
Until this Saturday. I was shown a mirror, and the view was soul-crushing. As every "brony in Equestria" fic goes - if I ended up there in Ponyville, how would it go? Great, here is the answer: like this. Or like this. Or like this (yee-haw). I would be the same piece of shit, and ponies wouldn't like that either. This is not intended for me, I'd get this at best.
As delusional as I was, that delusion worked an made me so much happier. Now it does not.
I don't know what to do now.
Shit.
