so this is what we're gonna sit through while we wait for G5... oh boy. this is gonna be tough.
So G1 had Megan, would it put you off watching MLP if they included her (or another) into G5?
I feel so disconnected from the pony verse, I've had some bad experiences watching the seasons as they come out on youtube etc. So I normally wait for them to be added to Netflix, but I've been waiting for what feels like a long time now for the final season. I'm doing my best to avoid spoilers... but I'm starting to feel like its never going to be added. Thoughts?
Hi there! It's Thursday again and that means another chance to talk about what's been happening around here and how you feel about it!
Same as every other time, feel free to discuss whatever it is you'd like regarding our little subreddit good or bad. If you're unhappy we'll try our best to fix whatever problem you're having!
If you want to talk about the MLP fandom in general, that's fine too!
But some people may not want to talk about comics or anything else that hasn't happened yet, so you should be nice and hide those conversations from those people by using the spoiler tag.
If you don't know how it's as easy as making an emote:
>!It has ponies!!<
And if you're not wanting to discuss the subreddit or community specifically you can also check out the weekly off-topic thread here!!!!
It's no secret that presence of modern technology is kind of a big and intentional change between FiM and Pony Life. While the first Equestria Girls movie had Twilight puzzling over how to use a vending machine, a computer, and a copy machine, (all difficult tasks to a creature who only recently discovered how fingers work, I'm sure) Pony Life is very different. The Mane 6 can regularly be spotted playing around on tablets and smart phones, taking selfies, and laughing at friends posts on social media.
If Applejack's fantasy's are any indication in the recent episode 'How Applejack Got Her Hat Back' then technology may be even further advanced in Pony Life than FiM beyond mere personal computing devices. She's shown flying an airplane, driving a fire truck, and implied to have taken a rocket ship to outer space!
The most advanced forms of transportation in FiM were typically trains (usually coal-fires but occasionally pulled by a team of stallions) and airships (Usually powered by magic, but also coal fired in the case of the Storm Kong's fleet). Most other travel was accomplished with wagons and carriages pulled by ponies or old fashioned sail boats (though more modern ships were seen in Manehatten). There was never anything like a car let alone a rocket ship, and most air travel was by some kind of balloon. This was because FiM was very much a fantasy setting with more modern elements creeping into the story when some place needed to seem more cosmopolitan than a 'little town' like Ponyville.
Pony Life seems to be very different and have a level of technology not just analogous with modern human technology but possibly entirely synonymous with it. It's unclear how much of Pony Life technology is magical versus electrical/battery powered as of yet, however. As noted, FiM had steam engines and probably internal combustion engines in larger cities, but while electricity was evident in some episodes others had the ponies living life by candlelight.
How advanced the infrastructure of Equestria was seems to have depended on who was writing a given episode. Pony Life On the other hand has television, and Pinkie Pie seems to comment on her preparations for her reality tv appearances every episode.
Do you like the more advanced level of technology in Pony Life? Does it make the situations and characters more relatable? Do you miss the 'fantasy but with modern flair' level of technology that FiM has? Or were airships and wagons just too archaic for you to enjoy and ruin your immersion?
Light spoilers for upcoming episodes of Pony Life.
If you've been watching the show then you already know that Sugarcube Corner is the hub around which most of the craziness revolves. Most episodes start with the girls gathering at the little bakery (which is now on an island in the middle of a pond for some reason) and then the conflict for the episode ensues, usually ending with the girls heading back to Sugarcube Corner once everything has been resolved. It's where they get their potions, where they brainstorm their ideas, and practically seems like where they live despite the only resident and apparent sole employee being Pinkie Pie. But something's missing, isn't it? Pinkie Pie isn't the only employee of Sugarcube Corner, or at least she wasn't in FiM.
Mr. And Mrs. Cake were the owners, bakers, and primary employees of Sugarcube Corner, and while Pinkie Pie worked and lived there it was their business and their home. The married couple are nowhere to be found in Pony Life. Neither they nor their twin children are even mentioned by Pinkie Pie even once. (Though, granted, Pinkie Pie seems pretty obsessed with her cooking competition/reality tv show.)
In a clip for an as yet unreleased episode, Pinkie has a line where she says 'Today's the day I take over Sugarcube Corner!' Though the episode has not aired yet, it's possible that this scene takes place in a flashback to before Pony Life started to air. While Pinkie was always an apprentice to the Cakes, in FiM it was never implied that she would one day take over the bakery.
Even in The Last Problem while it seems to be implied that Sugarcube Corner is still an important part of her life, she only stops by there to pick up Lil Cheese as Pound and Pumpkin Cake we're babysitting him. Of course, Pony Life is an AU so this Pinkie's destiny may be a little different From her FiM counterpart, but is it really that different?
So what happened?
Do you think the Cakes decided to move away and open up a new bakery in another town? Or do you think Pinkie Pie taking over the bakery is a temporary thing while the Cake family goes on vacation? Or do you think it's something as simple as the Cakes were just written out of the series, a superfluous element in the more paired down and streamlined (compared to FiM) new show?
What do you think happened to the Cakes?
There are always things about the show I want to talk about, but I'd rather not always dedicate an entire full blown thread to it or it's never the right time to mention because no one would care. Maybe it's a thought that could be answered quickly enough to end discussion or something insignificant and stupid brewing in the back of your head for awhile! Anything you want to throw out to r/mylittlepony and say your piece!
Is there anything you've wanted to mention lately but never got around to it? Anything you want to speak up about for a bit? Any pony topic at all?
My friend has this 15 yo grey Lusitano gelding that has a lot of schooling in him - piaffe, Spanish walk, reverse and was pretty close to gallop piruette. But due to personal reasons the horse stopped being ridden and it's only tacked occasionally for hacks. So yesterday he called me to see what the horse was like and if we could take him to regional competitions - the answer is no. He now has the stomach of a pregnant mare and the will to work of an unbroken stallion. Once on him he rears and refuses to go forward for a good half an hour even with spurs and whip. After being tired he will walk trot and gallop with much less complaining.
I wondered if it would be any health issue that would be bothering him but the owner told me that the vet/ ferrier saw him 2 weeks ago and dewormed and shoed him and he seemed fine. The only issue I noticed was a sharp tooth that needed attention.
This seems like a case of underworked lazy horse 101 and I need you guys assistance on how to get him back to being the Dressage prospect he once was.
