Really enjoyed S8 "What Lies Beneath"
They addressed the anxieties of the different species so well.
For awhile I didn't like how everyone but the ponies had a concept of friendship, and that it was the ponies' duty to reach the other species about its importance.
But this episode really reinforced that all species are capable of friendship and that it is part of their nature. It was just their cultures that taught them differently. And while the ponies are still a superior species when it comes to friendship, all other species are capable of changing and being just as friendly.
It was great seeing the anxieties of the kids and how they were brave enough to help themselves and their friends, all while disproving Cozy Glow's discriminating words.
Introducing all of these different creatures and their cultures is a great way to teach kids about diversity and help kids who feel like they are disadvantaged. The episode when the griffon kid sabotaged Hearth Warming because he didn't have a loving family to return to helped teach kids that the holidays aren't always a great time for everyone. For kids without families or with abusive or cold families going home for the holidays either isn't an option or is something they dread.
I've been so impressed with the writing for the past few seasons. I had my doubts about the school and it's students, but now I'm excited to see more!
