<- The news of the previous week | The news of this week | The news of the following week ->
Hello, everybody, welcome to Weekly Wrap Up where we recap the week in Pony, I'm your host /u/FlaminScribblenaut, thank you for being here!
Well, with Not Asking For Trouble airing in the US on Saturday and the next two episodes airing in Australia over the coming week, looks like we better start preparing for the Great Divided Hiatus Of 2017 as I am just now deciding to call it and probably won't continue to. With the hiatus lasting through July and half the fandom two episodes behind, it's gonna be two months of avoiding spoilers for the strict American viewers, therefore I wish all of you staying the Discovery Family course best of luck over the next two or so months. May your ponies be unspoilerd from now to hiatus' end.
I, of course, will be watching the Australian releases because I'm an impatient motherfucker who NEEDS MY PONIES. I NEED THEM.
Weekly Wrap Up is a weekly NPT feature that covers MLP and fandom-related news of note from the past week that you may have missed!

This Week on the Plounge (Balanced Edition)
Hello and again welcome to your weekly dose of 'I wonder if they've ever repeated themselves in this bit?': 'This Week on the Plounge' wherein I inform you, the fine folks of the mane sub, what's been going on at your favourite sister subreddit, the Plounge, this past week.
Wait, what is this Plounge you speak of?
The Plounge, or more formally the MLP Lounge is /r/mylittlepony's sister subreddit. Designed to be a place where you can free of the tyranny of rules 3 and 4. A chill place for bronies or anyone to talk in a SFW chat centric environment. It can be found over at /r/MLPLounge. (most of us browse by /new though). Oh and BPM is considered essential for optimum Plounging. (we don't mind the occasional blank post over there)

#mylittlepony - #[Headcanon] On the Astronomical Powers of Celestia and Luna
[Headcanon] On the Astronomical Powers of Celestia and Luna
These are Celestia and Luna. In addition to ruling and providing valuable lessons on friendship to ponies, little children, and a certain kind of grownup, these princesses are also responsible for "raising" the sun and moon respectively. ... but if Equestria is in a classic solar system with round planets (and comets and meteor showers!) how would this work? Turns out, they don't exactly "raise" the sun and moon... they only keep the whole dang planet on a consistent axis. And if they didn't everything on the planet would probably die. All planets have an axial tilt, the angle between its rotation and the orbit of its star. This angle can range from 0°, where the planet rotates along the same plane as its orbit and in the same manner as its star, to 180°, where the planet still rotates in the same plane as its orbit but in the opposite direction of its star. At 90°, the planet spins on its side perpendicular to its orbit, and one "day" equals a whole season, with wild temperature swings. Earth, as a reference, has an axial tilt of 23.4°. Now this may sound technical, but it's really important, because axial tilt is the difference between no seasons, pleasantly changing seasons, seasons that work the opposite way they do here on Earth and seasons so extreme that life could not survive. (Youtuber Artifexian's channel has a great video on this and other "world-building" topics.) My theory is that the planet where Equestria is on (which I will call just plain ol' "Equestria") has a naturally variable and unstable axial tilt. Yes, axial tilts do change. Normally, they change so slowly that it takes thousands of years for the change to become noticeable. But what if this change were faster? It would mean, at the very least, inconsistent climates that would make farming difficult, if not impossible. Mild seasons would turn into scorching heat or bitter cold quickly [PHOTO OF PEASANT PONY WEEPING OVER DEAD CROPS NOT FOUND], and a pre-industrial society would have no way to predict them or protect itself. That huge inexplicable blizzard, the one that was so bad and lasted so long that all three tribes ran out of food and had to leave their home ranges? It might have been that. (And before you say anything else, it's possible that the Windigoes merely followed the cold and the misery it brought, rather than creating the cold itself, like migrating birds. (Or in this case, flying half-horse demons.) The first time it happened it brought Earth Ponies, Pegasi, and Unicorns into a state of war and famine (and at a time before Celestia and Luna - recall that before the princesses, each tribe had its own flag which featured neither!) Something had to be done to ensure such a catastrophe never befell Equestria again. Remember this book? The part where Alicorns, a mix of all three tribes, had special and unique powers, and where two of these alicorns, sisters Celestia and Luna, were chosen for special leadership roles with the involvement of the legendary wizard Starswirl the Bearded? OK, here's where the science and the magic meet: Celestia and Luna were magically "bound" to the Sun and Moon, anchored if you will. Their power of "raising" the Sun and Moon doesn't lift the Sun and Moon, their power adjusts Equestria's axial tilt with respect to the Sun and Moon, ensuring predictable seasons, moderate temperatures, good conditions for growing crops... and the survival of all life on the planet. If they didn't do it on a regular basis, Equestria's "day" could last as long as its seasons, with months of scorching heat followed by months of bitter cold. Further consider: * When Celestia was forced to banish Luna to the moon, she had to take over raising both Sun and Moon in the interim.. The same thing happened when Celestia and Luna transferred their powers to Twilight during Tirek's attack - Twilight had to raise both sun and moon at appropriate times. * When Discord took over Equestria, he gained the power to change Equestria's axial tilt on a whim... which would look like he was changing the position of the sun and moon at will. * When Celestia and Luna both disappeared, the Sun and Moon held their respective positions, with Canterlot looking like permanent twilight. * And when Celestia and Luna changed powers for a day, it was not only their cutie marks and powers that were switched, the colors of their respective magic switched as well, indicating that they each have a deeper connection to the Sun and Moon that they admit. (That, and they are also the alicorns who we know canonically are immortal.) TL;DR: Without these two, Equestria would be a freezer-burned hell-hole where no life could survive. You're welcome.

As a more positive counterpart to /u/Crocoshark's thread, I would like to hear what part(s) of an episode, or a whole episode, made you positively reflect on what makes this show and/or community so attractive.
Or rather, what strong moments or episodes help emphasize what drawn you to the show in the first place, and keep you engaged?

The Fanfic Recommendation Link-Swap Thread
So, because it's No-Pics Thursday (June 15th, 2017) today, you know what that means...
It's time for the Weekly Fanfic Recommendation LINK-SWAP Game thread to continue!
Anyways, THE RULES (read 'em carefully):
-
Post a link to a fanfiction you like (can be your own as well - it's okay to self-promote), with or without a short blurb.
-
Important: Reply to someone else's post with a link to a fanfiction you think they might like, based on their choices.
-
Put each of your choices in a separate post if you want to make sure to get a recommendation based on each one. You may reply to someone else's reply, either to you or to someone else. Please make long discussion threads, they introduce a healthy bit of exploration and can help us find new interests! And that's it!
PLEASE COMPLETE BOTH STEPS 1 and 2. Don't just show up and ask for recommendations if you're not willing to provide any. I'll start the first few threads myself, and reply with a gentle reminder if you forget. Ready? Set? LET"S GO! Also, feel free to self-promote in here!

#horses - #Please help: What does this scary Horse sound mean?
Please help: What does this scary Horse sound mean?
Last night I was woken up at 3am by the dog barking. This alerts me to listen out first, then go investigate if he keeps going. Laying in bed I could hear this loud noise, I could only think of 2 possibilities of what it could be, someone drilling in bursts into the house or someone dragging a really heavy bag across the concrete. So I got up and looked outside where it was quickly obvious that the noise was coming from the paddock next door with 2 horses. I shone the light on them and it was just the one horse making the noise. Here is the clip I took, no video just sound (sorry for quality) https://youtu.be/DH7LRCx9l-Y
The horse was about a semi-trailer length away. To me it sounded really scary since it was quite loud and unnatural to be coming from one since I've never heard them do it before. Plus it was making the dog go off for a while until he got used to it.
It started off really frequent, 3-4 times a minute, then once every 3 Mins, then kept dying off until he did it once or twice in 30. Then was silent for the night.
This is in the suburbs of Wollongong, Australia so no wild dogs or anything like that about.

#mylittlepony - #What Starlight's Nightmare Reveals About Her
What Starlight's Nightmare Reveals About Her
In the episode Royal Problems, Starlight has a terrible nightmare about bungling her mission so badly that the royal sisters hatred for one another grows to the point that they both assume eviler aspects and attempt to destroy one another. While this underlines Starlight's already well documented anxiety problems and self doubt, it also reveals an inherent distrust of authority figures.
It may not come as a surprise to many fans that Starlight Glimmer has issues with authority. Indeed it is her rebellion against the 'tyranny of cutie marks', the perception that they make ponies inherently unequal and unhappy, that drove her to take away others cutie marks to begin with. But there may be deeper issues at play here than just the resentment of fate.
There are several reasons for this we can speculate about.
Perhaps Starlight doesn't trust authority figures because she was one herself at one time. When she was in charge of Our Town sge was selfish, manipulative, and out to achieve her own ends despite saying it was to create real friendships and harmony. It's possible this leads her to inherently harbor doubts about the intentions of other leaders, despite their stated goals and outward benevolent appearances.
It's also possible that Starlight is a natural pessimist trying and failing to be part of an optimistic world. It wouldn't take much for most ponies to see the worst in Princess Lin, but for Starlight to dream up an equally horrible, possibly eviler version of Celestia, that seems to speak to the idea that Starlight subscribes to the idea that the brighter a person shines then the darker their secrets. Many fans have crafted theories that Celestia is more manipulative and less benevolent than she may appear, but for a pony in the show to subconsciously have such doubts about her is actually very telling about Starlight.
Of course, the explaination for this distrust could be as simple as some buried trauma. This is pure speculation, but Starlight reacted extremely agitated when the Princesses were fighting with one another. Yes there was the added pressure that this was the problem Starlight was there to fix, and it would be fairly unsettling to watch two entities as powerful as the Princesses quarrel, even as siblings are know to do... Even so, Starlight seems truly upset, and seems to cast her spell to switch the sisters cutie marks before she even realizes what she's doing.
It's not hard to imagine a filly Starlight cowering as, perhaps, her own parents fought one another. If you grew up in a household where such fights were common, you might have some idea how terrifying such clashes between the people who are supposed to be your care givers, who are supposed to love you and live each other, might be to a young and impressionable mind that just wants all the yelling to stop. It's not hard to imagine Starlight blaming herself, some perceived flaw, for why her parents might fight if she didn't know the true cause. It wouldn't be hard to imagine her trying to externalize that self hatred in order to keep herself sane either.
It's possible Starlight's underlying distrust of authority may stem from an outright fear of authority figures, especially when they are fighting one another, and a lack of understanding of how to deal with such situations that are in truth beyond your control.
While some have floated over Starlight crying her eyes out while the phantoms of Nightmare Moon and Daybreaker fight around her, I think this Nightmare may have cut to the very core of many of Starlight's problems. She is a pony that feels very much out of control and that any attempts she makes to try and get a better grip on things will inevitably only make things worse. She fears the intentions of those things in her life that have power over her, but she also fears doing anything to face or disrupt that status quo.
I don't think Luna was speaking lightly when she said that if nothing was done then Starlight's Nightmare might do lasting damage to her psyche. As it stands, I'm at the point where I think the damage was already done some time ago, and Starlight is only just now starting to heal with the help of the Princess's.

My Little Pony on Reddit - I'm not locked in here with you—You're locked in here with Meta Discussion!
Hi there! It's Thursday again and that means another chance to talk about what's been happening around here and how you feel about it!
Same as every other time, feel free to discuss whatever it is you'd like regarding our little subreddit good or bad. If you're unhappy we'll try our best to fix whatever problem you're having!
If you want to talk about the MLP fandom in general, that's fine too!
But some people may not want to talk about comics or anything else that hasn't happened yet, so you should be nice and hide those conversations from those people by using the spoiler tag.
If you don't know how it's as easy as making an emote:
[It has ponies!](/spoiler)
Becomes: It has ponies!
And if you're not wanting to discuss the subreddit or community specifically you can also check out the weekly off-topic thread that will be up at noon Pacific time!!!!
