Hello horsie hive mind, for reasons of great importance* I need^ to find the meme of a horse freaking out at a blowing tarp. For some reason I can not summon it via the great Google. Anyone have this handy?
*Namely it amuses me. My amusement is very important. To me at least.
more like want...but y'know, they're close right?
I'm 16 years old and I've had a horse and a pony since I was 3. We rent a tiny private yard but recently it has become unsuitable due to being turned into cottages. And so we are moving my two Arab geldings to a yard with other people and other horses. I'm a happy hacker but I know first hand how competitive some people are. Are there any tips or things I should know before this move?
I've hardly been around horses, just admired them from afar. I've noticed that in comments (especially on Facebook) people will say something like, "Wow, that horse looks so dappled and healthy!" or "Congrats on getting your horse nursed back to health, she's so dappled!"
Does dappling indicate health in some way and if so, how?
Purely a curiosity question on my part. Thanks in advance!
I need some help getting back into riding, as I'm not sure how to find what I an looking for.
Background: I have 13 years of experience, but none for 5 years. I have ridden hunt seat, but mostly western pleasure with a bit of barrels. I have spent 3 summers teaching basic skills to girl scouts, and exploring trails. I last half leased a horse for trail riding 5 years ago. It was awesome.
Now: I am interested in casual riding, and probably getting into endurance. I would like to lease or own in the next year or two. I am very interested in getting a mustang, either from the extreme mustang makeover or the TIP program.
Problem: most of the barns around me are very competitive, which I have no interest in. I know I could just take lessons to get back into form and used to being around horses again, but I don't see them as a long term solution. I am just as interested in getting back into mucking stalls and general maintenance as I am into riding. Does it make sense to look more for a half lease, or advertise that I'm looking for a half lease for casual riding and trails? My other thought was contacting the local endurance chapter and seeing if anyone was looking for general barn help and teaching someone the basics for endurance racing.
Any advice? I'm in the eastern Hartford area of CT if any one has any leads as well.
Thanks.
Recently my 20 year old gelding with a muddled history of a neglect situation that almost cost him his life (and left him with a long-standing scar/leg injury on his left hind) was diagnosed with arthritis. This is hardly surprising, but as I haven't had to treat arthritis in horses previously, I thought I would ask if anyone here had any experience with Adequan and how that might compare to other products as well as joint supplements. Obviously supplements are more for prevention and in addition to medications that would relieve symptoms, but what are some suggestions and products people believe really help their horses? Thank you in advance!
What do you think of this? Are you excited?
