I live in the UK. I'm 25, I have a good, fairly well-paying job, reasonable rent (as reasonable as it can be for the south of England...) and no major responsibilities beyond paying my bills. My partner and I go on staycations around the UK and we haven't been abroad since November 2016 just to keep costs down. I walk to work every day to save on travel costs and we're not big drinkers or partiers.
Onto horses... I go riding once a week at a local stable and I am absolutely aching to have my own horse again. Or at least more time with horses! I had horses as a teenager and made sure to work hard at school, go to a good university and get a good job so I could one day afford them myself and on my own terms. But I look at my bank balance and just think... I will never ever be able to afford to keep one. I gave up any hope of a career in equestrianism because everyone told me that if I did go into it, I would never be able to afford my own horses and I would end up unhappy and poor. But all I see now is that I gave up my life-long dream and the thing that makes me so unbelievably happy for 40 hours a week of a job I plod through day to day and 1 hour in a riding school a week.
Rant over! I know this probably sounds like a very naive question but please be nice. I just want to know - how do you guys afford your horses?
