So, my 6 year old and I bonded over the past few years of the show. I'm a late brony, I found the community through Rooster Teeth and eventually introduced my daughter to the show because I hated the mindless shows she was watching. I loved the morals, the songs, and she seemed happy. Now, she's in kindergarten and kids are making fun of her because she likes the show. It breaks my heart to see our bond broken by peer pressure. I know that MLP is just a cartoon, but I really am blown away that she's being made fun of for it at the age of 6. Have any other fathers experienced this? She has now been embarrassed by showing her love of the show. I expect that this has happened to countless other parents for various reasons, but I wanted the community's opinion.
TL:DR My daughter was teased for loving the show, I just want to keep her self-esteem intact
Hello and again welcome to your weekly dose of 'I can't believe they have a Christmas header yet?': 'This Week on the Plounge' wherein I inform you, the fine folks of the mane sub, what's been going on at your favourite sister subreddit, the Plounge, this past week.
Wait, what is this Plounge you speak of?
The Plounge, or more formally the MLP Lounge is /r/mylittlepony's sister subreddit. Designed to be a place where you can free of the tyranny of rules 3 and 4. A chill place for bronies or anyone to talk in a SFW chat centric environment. It can be found over at /r/MLPLounge. (most of us browse by /new though). Oh and BPM is nice to have. You may not need it for yourself, but you will be missing out on tons of hidden ponies scattered across the forum.
What some casual conversation with a sprinkling of ponies? Come over to this introductions thread and meet some people. Don't worry there's also a topic so it ain't just "hi!" "hi" awkward silence.

Due to the electrical load needed for heated buckets, the barn owner has requested we not use them. The barn is actually very well insulated and fairly comfortable, but based on the weather the last few days I'm worried this winter we'll have issues. Right now, staying around 18 during the day and ~0 at night and the buckets just get a thin crust of ice that the horses don't seem to mind breaking through.
Most of us have your standard flat-backed Fortiflex type buckets. The only thing that I've seen which would work are the insulated bucket covers at SmartPak but I'm skeptical. Has anyone used them or have other ideas?
We're also having issues with horses not being turned out because they can't keep the troughs unfrozen for more than an hour or two, and in that case they are too far from a power source to even request a heater.
So, because it's No-Pics Thursday (December 28th, 2017) today, you know what that means...
It's time for the Weekly Fanfic Recommendation LINK-SWAP Game thread to continue!
And we're in Week 8 of the Season 7 to Season 8 Hiatus.
In fact, this is the last Fanfic Recommendations thread of the year! So because of this, let's do something a bit different. For this thread, in addition to the rules below, recommend your favorite fanfics of 2017!.
Anyways, THE RULES (read 'em carefully):
Post a link to a fanfiction you like (can be your own as well - it's okay to self-promote), with or without a short blurb.
Important: Reply to someone else's post with a link to a fanfiction you think they might like, based on their choices.
Put each of your choices in a separate post if you want to make sure to get a recommendation based on each one. You may reply to someone else's reply, either to you or to someone else. Please make long discussion threads, they introduce a healthy bit of exploration and can help us find new interests! And that's it!
PLEASE COMPLETE BOTH STEPS 1 and 2. Don't just show up and ask for recommendations if you're not willing to provide any. I'll start the first few threads myself, and reply with a gentle reminder if you forget.
IMPORTANT NOTE. Thanks to /u/BookHorseBot (many thanks to their creator, /u/BitzLeon), you can now use the aforementioned bot to easily post the name, description, views, rating, tags, and a bunch of other information about a fic hosted on Fimfiction.net. All you need to do is include "{NAME OF STORY}" in your comment (without quotes), and the bot will look up the story and respond to your comment with the info. It makes sharing stories really convenient. You can even lookup multiple stories at once.
Ready? Set? LET"S GO! Also, feel free to self-promote in here!
What would happen to all of us? How would the alicorns and the rest of the ponies react?
Let's assume we are all still human when transported into this new world.
This competition is now going badly on the Brony@Home side. Friday/Saturday last week AnandTech picked up some new people and jumped 18million points/day. As of right now, we are losing to them by about 16million/day unless something happens.
To help us in the struggle against AnandTech, just download and install the folding@home software http://folding.stanford.edu/start-folding/ and make sure to put in team #212997 so the points count towards the Brony@Home team.
For the new ponies: This is a Folding@home competition between the two teams. Folding@Home is software you install on your computer to donate spare computing power for cancer (and influenza and many others) research. In addition to the competition, Brony@Home is offering prizes to any who say they want to sign up for prizes. Please read http://www.bronyathome.org/forums/showthread.php?tid=611 for more information about the competition and how to win awesome stuff like plushies or a videocard.

I haven't seen much of a discussion on the implications of a pony's cutie mark, and by extension a pony's special talent, on a pony's life if said special talent was taboo or illegal. So I thought that I would post my thoughts on the topic here.
To begin, we can imagine a hypothetical scenario where a pony has just discovered their talent and gained their cutie mark. For this scenario we will designate "stealing" as the illegal talent. We shall chose stealing to serve as the example illegal talent because it is does not go against the naturally pacifistic culture of Equestria by involving bodily harm to another being.
In this scenario, where a pony has just discovered that their special talent is stealing, should the pony:
Obey Equestria's laws and never use their special talent.
Embrace their special talent and defy Equestria's laws.
Use their illegal talent for "good" as a vigilante, like Robin Hood.
Use their illegal talent to assist the Equestrian govenment in covert missions, with the government pardoning the pony's illegal activities.
Discuss in the comments.
Okay, yet another hypothetical/alternate universe situation: Imagine that Twilight Sparkle is still a student at Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns.
However, instead of being Celestia's personal protege, she's just a regular student who sleeps in a dorm with her five roommates.
This ends up being good for Twilight, as she learns about friendship and stuff.
If Twilight Sparkle, Sunset Shimmer, Starlight Glimmer, Trixie Lulamoon, Fizzlepop Berrytwist and Moon Dancer were all roommates from fillyhood to their young adulthood (or whenever they graduate), what would their friendship be like?
Since none of them go bad/antisocial in this alternate world, how similar/different are these ponies from their "canon" versions?
Eventually, Nightmare Moon breaks out, and the events of the pilot basically repeat. Which unicorn would get which Element?
Fizzlepop still has her horn, but she loses it in a similar incident later while rescuing Moon Dancer from a Tatzlwurm. What happens? How do the rest of the Unicorn 6 react to the loss of her horn?
Starlight Glimmer used to be, well, not universally despised, but she had enough haters that the fandom was pretty split on that front.
However, I recently noticed that Starlight is pretty liked now, and not just on Reddit, on most other sites as well.
When do you think this change occurred, and why?
Equestria is a pretty happy place, but I'm sure crimes still happen all the time. The question is: What type of crimes would happen in such a happy horse society like this one? We know stealing is a thing that happens and so is trespassing, but what about other crimes? Do ponies get charged with littering? Arson? Jayflying? Foalnapping? Treason? Putting the cart before the horse? The mane 6 has gotten away with some pretty crazy stuff over the series. In our would they would have been arrested by now. For everything. So what types of crimes do you think normally happen in Equestria? How would a pony commit it? What could they possibly gain in this society? What's the difference between Earth, Pegasus, and Unicorn crimes? Is the system corrupt?

ALTERNATE UNIVERSE
In the fall of 2010, an anime series premieres in Japan. Called Friend/Ship Is Magic, the 26-episode saga follows 6 young women and their military escort "Spike" on the starship Celestia.
What is the story about?
Who or what is the antagonist?
The Mane 6 are clearly serving aboard the Celestia in some capacity. What are their roles? Are they fellow soldiers, or are they something else? Do the Elements of Harmony have a counterpart in this universe?
Considering that "Spike" is merely a nickname in this universe, the characters likely have more human-sounding names. Any ideas?
If there was a crossover between this hypothetical anime and the real show, what would happen?
Bonus Question: Who would likely be cast in the English dub if they were unable to get Tara Strong, Tabitha St. Germain, Ashleigh Ball and Andrea Libman (considering "Spike's" masculine voice, Cathy Weseluck unlikely to reprise her role here)?
Hey, I was wondering how much the average cost to board one horse is, both in the US and around the world? I pay $675 per month and that is a lot if money, but comparatively cheap for the area and it has indoor and outdoor arenas. I'm in NJ, USA, in the greater NYC metropolitan area.
I never understood this fandom and it's views on being referenced in the show. When Slice of Life came out, I had a blast. To this day I watch that episode and have a hearty laugh. But it seems like most people online consider it one of the worst episodes.
I get wanting the show to stand on it's own, but the show has fan and it goes out of it's way to show it's appreciation for us. And we get mad and call it "pandering". I don't get it, dude.
edit: my emoticon game is not on point
Hi there! It's Thursday again and that means another chance to talk about what's been happening around here and how you feel about it!
Same as every other time, feel free to discuss whatever it is you'd like regarding our little subreddit good or bad. If you're unhappy we'll try our best to fix whatever problem you're having!
If you want to talk about the MLP fandom in general, that's fine too!
But some people may not want to talk about comics or anything else that hasn't happened yet, so you should be nice and hide those conversations from those people by using the spoiler tag.
If you don't know how it's as easy as making an emote:
[It has ponies!](/spoiler)
Becomes: It has ponies!
And if you're not wanting to discuss the subreddit or community specifically you can also check out the weekly off-topic thread that will be up at noon Pacific time!!!!
