[serious] Why do so many fan-made animations have pacing/timing/speed problems, despite beautiful artwork?
I've watched hundreds of fan-made animations over the years I've been in this fandom, and many are—visually—down right amazing! Any frame from dozens of these looks better than the actual show in fact. But when actually playing the video, the pacing is all wrong. Every action is far, far slower than it should be. Simple actions take forever, focus is given to things that should be incidental, etc.
I understand motion and speed are very typical newbie mistakes in animation, but... I'm surprised by how good the art/shading/color/etc. is from so many artists, yet the timing in the very same videos is still abysmal.
Is it just good artists moving to "motion" for the first time? Are good artists just not necessarily good judges of motion (the same way a singer with a great voice can be bad at drums/tempo?) Is it something else?
I ask, because I love the content this fandom produces, but when I see problems so glaring that I feel I could do better (and I'm not an artist at all) handicapping the output of obviously talented artists, I wonder where the disconnect is.
