one of the first things people usually say about riding safety is that you should always ride with a buddy, but that may not be easy or even possible for many riders.
do you ever ride alone? if you do, is it just that you're the only one in the arena/field/wherever you ride, but there are other people on the property? or are you the only one around at all? what kind of riding do you do? are there certain activities you avoid? what precautions do you take [protective gear, cellphone, check-ins, etc]?

said goodbye to my beautiful girl yesterday
Yesterday, I made the decision to put my beautiful friend to sleep. I got her when she was 4 and I was 10, and yesterday she was 27, and I am 33.
In our 23 years together, we competed in 4-H shows doing barrel racing, making it all the way to 4-H States and placing in several events. We then switched to 3-Day Eventing when I was a senior in high school, where we competed in the Beginner Novice division. She came with me to college, to graduate school, and finally to Western NY where I've been for 10 years. I haven't shown her since high school but we kept on riding (mostly trail riding) until a few years ago, when I finally retired her due to arthritis. She's lived out her retirement at a small barn with 24/7 pasture access from her stall, maintenance Bute, and lots of love. We were worried about her survival of last winter, since she had gotten stuck a few times laying down, but we removed her blanket and she did really well, exceeding our expectations.
Her arthritis got worse over the summer, and she was struggling to put any weight on her bad leg, which was taking its toll on the rest of her legs and she had lost weight (which says a lot since she is the easiest keeper in the world).
I had to make the truly horrible decision to put her down before some sort emergency happened. We put her on a nerve blocker for her last week and she did amazingly well. She was laying down and rolling in the pasture. It was heart-breaking to see her doing so well, knowing that she was never going to get any better. Saying goodbye to her was one of the worst things I've ever done. I couldn't watch when they put her to sleep, but they told me she went down peacefully, and then kept eating grass until it was over. I'm glad she as able to bring some brevity to such a sad situation. It was a beautiful fall day.
I am going to miss her so much. She was an amazing friend and partner. She was such a fighter and she would do anything for me. She tried so hard to do anything I asked of her, yet she was so sweet and gentle. She got so many treats and kisses this past week, and I am so thankful that I got a final week to spend with her. My heart is broken and I feel like a piece of my soul is gone.

There was some demand for updates as I saw more episodes, especially anything significant. So, this one had a dragon, which seems pretty significant. So I present to you-
My thoughts on Episode 7 'Dragonshy', AKA The episode where Fluttershy almost gets everyone killed and is generally useless (until the end).
So coming into this episode, I was instantly intrigued. A sleeping dragon threatens to cover Equestria in smoke and ash and it's up to our girls to take care of it lest their home is turned into a wasteland. Let me tell you something, that is a good fucking premise. The stakes hadn't been this high since the first two episodes and I was digging it.
So, a few things. Fluttershy, who is among the best characters so far, was unbearable this episode. That might not be a popular opinion, but it's how I felt. The rest of the team, however, was on fucking point. Especially Apple Jack and even Rarity earned some points with me when she tried to swindle a dragon out of its money to its fucking face. That was fantastic.
Apple Jack was just the MVP the entire episode, putting in work. I'm really warming up to her. On a side note I noticed, how fucking awesome must it be to be a male pony? The ratio looks like 10 females to every one male so it must be way easier to get some than it is for us humans. Alright, back to the main plot.
I was impressed about how ready to rock everyone was when they were told they gonna go evict a dragon. I really liked the team dynamic. Like I said before, Fluttershy wasn't great. What baffled me the most was how she didn't seem to mind it if SHE was almost killing her friends in a totally preventable avalanche (that was caused solely by her) but if a fucking dragon steps up?
He better back his scaly ass off, those are her hoes, he better find another damn corner. Speaking of the dragon, I loved his design. He also seemed pretty reasonable up until dash kicked him in the fucking jaw, UNPROVOKED I might add. I mean yeah, he was snoring smoke that would become an apocalyptic event but he was just sleeping.
In the end, Fluttershy employs the 'Wife-Beater' method where she gets right up in his grill for supposedly doing something wrong just by existing then whispers sweet nothings, ultimately leading to "Get the fuck out of my hood."
WHICH, another side note, just makes him someone else's problem. So, really, they're not saving anyone, they're just shoving him onto some other poor bastard.
In conclusion, liked the episode, but it certainly didn't do Fluttershy any favors. But hey, at least she's a protagonist with well defined flaws. 'Recklessness' gets pretty annoying and generic, so good on the writers for that.
