Is Celestia an irresponsible ruler?
Okay maybe "irresponsible" is a bit harsh (or maybe it isn't, depending on your point of view), but am I the only one who thinks Celestia has made some rather irresponsible decisions throughout the series? In particular, relying on Twilight to fix problems that she herself would probably be more suited to take care of? The very first episode, in which Nightmare Moon escapes, is implied (at least according to some based on something Faust once said) to be Celestia's fault. The theory being that Celestia purposely arranged the planets to "aid Nightmare Moon in her escape" and then left things to Twilight to fix. Even if she was just testing Twilight, what would Celestia have done if Twilight failed? I hope she had a back up plan, because it seems to me unleashing your evil younger sister upon your kingdom with no back up plan is extremely irresponsible lol!
Then there's the whole incident with King Sombra. Again, she was testing Twilight, and perhaps Celestia felt she could not do it on her own, but what if Twilight had failed? What would Celestia have done then? Even Princess Luna, iirc, was concerned about giving Twilight such a monumental task. And later, as a final test before granting Twilight the status of Alicorn, Celestia gave Twilight Starswirl's unfinished spell to complete. There's no way Celestia couldn't have known what that spell did though, since she knew it was unfinished. I get that she had faith in Twilight, but on the off chance Twilight couldn't complete the spell, what would Celestia have done? Would the poor Mane 6 been left to suffer with their incompatible cutie marks? Sorry if it seems like I'm coming down pretty harshly on Celestia, but I just think that a princess/queen ought to put the well-being of her country ahead of an apprentice, no matter how special or promising that apprentice may seem. Even if she had been planning to turn Twilight into an Alicorn for awhile and had great faith in her capabilities, she still ought to have had a fail-safe (and I hope she did) in case her prodigy messed up or failed. But what do the rest of you think? Was Celestia an irresponsible ruler? Please remember to keep it civil!
