#horses - #What did I witness? (Re: Morgan Park Saddle? Horse show)

What did I witness? (Re: Morgan Park Saddle? Horse show)

Hi there, I am looking for insight regarding a horse show I was watching at a fair today. I just can't quite figure out how one of them won ...

There were two horses with riders in the arena. Let's call them horse A and horse B.

Here is what I saw, to my untrained eye. Horse A was doing the high step thing, and seemed quite good at it. No awkwardness. The rider was in very good control of him as witnessed by the very smooth movements around the ring, quick to listen when they went from trot to canter and back , switched directions when asked. Both horse and rider looked very comfortable in the ring.

Horse B, was awkward and clunky in his high step, was not really a fan of the turns, he kept pulling towards the wall. Was not listening well, took a while to slow down from a canter, and overall seemed stressed. He/she was foaming from the mouth , something the other horse was not doing. I generally know that as a stress sign in animals. Correct me if I'm wrong. He was still pulling his head back when they asked them to meet in the middle of the arena for judging.

Well rider B won. HOW?! What am I missing? What were they judging on because in my mind A won by a long shot. I tried looking up the judging criteria but I'm coming up empty handed.. or I'm just not understanding something.

I'm hoping one of you horse lovers can help me make sense of what I witnessed today. Lol thank you in advance.

TLDR: What is the judging criteria for "Morgan Park Saddle"?
