The Development of Applejack
So let's talk about Applejack shall we? From the very beginning of the show we have always seen that Applejack has tended to be the most responsible and "adult" of her friends and group in how seriously she took her duties on the farm. Where as Pinkie or Rainbow Dash would create zanity or Rarity would fuss, Applejack would always strive to fix a problem as pragmatically as possible, though her hard headedness and stubbornness would continue to be a problem for years.
Honestly it seems that her only major flaw WAS her stubbornness and her feeling the need to take EVERYTHING on her shoulders regarding the farm. She hates asking for help, and her pride has caused her problems time and time again.
But lately I have noticed something. Over time as the series went on Applejack had began to loosen up regarding her issues. She grew less stubborn and opened her horizons thanks to her friendship with Rarity, she continued to be the emotional rock for Twilight, she gained a new extended family in Pinkie and the Pies, and Applebloom. Dear Sweet Applebloom and her crusades helped her reconnect with her little sister.
A lot of this can be tracked now that we have what is basically her entire backstory, with only a minor exception of WHEN her parents died/disappeared,: from the Great Seedling and giving up on childish things, to leaving the farm for the city, gaining her cutie mark and returning to the farm, becoming a liar, becoming honest and responsible, and then some time passes until the series itself starts.
From there she has remained the most static of the Mane 6 in terms of character development but she did still change. Her views softened regarding traditions of the Apple Family, she became great and close friends with those she likely never would have before, how to compromise, mothers over and letting Applebloom be her own pony, to rethink old habits and ways of doing things, and now remembering to be a kid again even despite being an adult. She has learned to not be serious and responsible ALL the time and has connected with her younger sister and filly self.
And I dare say that seeing the most responsible, "normal", and "adult" of the Mane 6 letting go for once and simply enjoying life and something silly after so long was SO refreshing. And I do believe that I am beginning to ramble.
So I have absolutely adored Applejack's development over the series. Though more subtle then others of her like it still did progress from beginning to the end of where we are at now. What did the rest of y'all think? Do y'all like how Applejack's character and personality has developed over the course of the show? Do y'all like that we have a pretty detailed timeline of how she came to be how she is all the way to Season 9?
