Could MLP sustain an action heavy and dialogue light episode?
So my favorite movie of the year so far has been John Wick 3. Something I really loved about the movie was the first thirty minutes or so which is basically one long bombastic action scene with very little if any dialogue. The story is told more through physicality and violence, with the main characters desperation palpable even as he dispatches one enemy after another.
That got me to thinking about an old fan animation I really liked called Once Upon a Time in Canterlot that was also an action heavy take on what was happening in the capital of Equestria during the Changeling invasion in A Canterlot Wedding part 2. Its fantastic, in that it also manages to tell a coherent story without the need of dialogue but instead loads of action.
So do you think the current season of MLP could do something similar? Could it devote, say, one episode to Equestria at war, showing the ponies defending themselves from whatever horrors Grogar and his allies will soon unleash? Or do you think that such a set up would be too much for the show, either beyond the ability of the animators to pull offf or too much of a push away from the more dialogue heavy slice of life nature of the program?
Personally I think it's doable, and I'd love it if they shook things up for the last season and had an episode that was packed to the brim with action, but I can understand that might not be to everyone's liking, most of all Hasbro's.
