Can we talk about the AMAZING way Terramar's family is portrayed? [S8E6]
In season 8 episode 6, the cutiemark crusaders are called to the Hippogriff's land, and eventually discover they must help Terramar (them quality puns), a young hippogrif, decide if he wants to live in the water or on the land - with his mom, or his dad. They're probably not married, as they don't live together and don't catch up with each other that often (judging by their greetings to one another). So either they're divorced... or Terramar was born out of wedlock. And I think it's absolutely groundbreaking that this is not only portrayed, but in a neutral, respectful light. The parents are amicable, but obviously not in love. They both love their son equally and don't try to pull him away from each other (though they do argue their respective dominions are best).
With so many kids today not living in a nuclear family, it warms my heart to see such wonderful represent for them.
