Alicorns and their 'godhood'?
So this is a discussion I have been wanting to have with y'all for a while now regarding the princesses of Equestria. Princess Celestia who raises and lowers the sun, Princess Luna who does the same for the moon and is able to enter the dreams of her little ponies, Princess Cadence who draws her power from Love itself which proves to be one of the more powerful powers, and Princess Twilight Sparkle the princess of Friendship.
There has been talk regarding the original Princess Duo on whether or not they count as gods or not, after all they CONTROL the Sun and Moon respectively and they seem positively timeless, and that is no small feat. However as we go further and further into the show we see that these beings who are immensely powerful get defeated time and time again. We even see evidence that other cultures used to raise and control the sun before Princess Celestia was born. We see them get overpowered.
It is interesting to note that I never see Twilight or Cadence be tossed these accusations of godhood despite their own Ascensions and immense powers. While the two of them don't control any celestial bodies they still embody two of the most powerful forces to ever exist. The power of bonds. Specifically the Bonds of Love and Friendship. Also Magic in Twilight's case.
So I want to ask this if y'all. Would you consider the Princesses as goddesses? Demigoddesses? Just Celestia and Luna? Why them and not the other two? And what do you consider a "god"? Is it just immense power and immortality to the ravages of time? Because if that is the criteria then Discord, Sombra, and Chrysalis could count as gods. And if you do consider them as "gods" what exactly does that entail in your eyes?
