#horses - #Horse leg lamness

Horse leg lamness

We have a pair of horses, a mother and daughter. The mother, who is about 25 (we think since we rescued her from a really bad situation we only have an estimate on age, recently got into our work barn after a door got left open by someone breaking in and stealing power tools. When she was in there she went over a 2 and a half foot wooden barrier and it looked like she kicked it pretty hard. That day when I found her and got her back into her field she seemed fine. This was about 4 days ago.

However 2 days ago I noticed she had a slight limp on her front right leg. Yesterday she was just standing in place in the middle of the field in the rain and her daughter was nowhere around so I went out to check on her. As I was walking out there she walked towards me but she was hopping on 3 legs and holding her front right leg off the ground. I checked the leg and I didn't see any swelling and she didn't react negatively to me checking any areas of it and there were no hot areas. Her hoof looks like it has a crack on it but it looks like a tiny crack. I couldn't find anything under her hoof but to be fair I was by myself, it was raining hard, and by this time her brat daughter had shown back up and was causing issues.

I'm not very experienced with horses. I only started working with these two this year when my sister got married and decided she didn't want to take care of them anymore. They are sweet although the daughter is a brat and can be very dominant but I'm working with her.
