People who have Shetlands or other miniature breeds, what do you do with them?
I imagine that they'd be good for very small children or dwarves who want to ride, and I know that back in the day they worked in coal mines and even before that women in the Shetlands brought them out to carry the fruits, berries and peat that they'd collected, but there isn't much of that now is there. I've heard of people using them for driving, but why not a larger pony that can pull more weight and also be rode? Are they mostly just companions that — for lack of a better example — get treated more like dogs than horses, living inside and going for walks and grazing the back garden instead of a pasture?
I love them and think they're adorable, but they cost quite a bit and most people don't spend that money on something that they can't do anything but coo at and feed apples to.
