Anyone have any experience with arthritis/fused hocks?
I'm basically just looking for any similar stories/reassurance...
Long story short, my 8 year old horse went lame and was diagnosed with arthritis in one hock last year. She had the steroid injection, tildren, cartrophen course and tried bute but none if it made any difference.
Our next option is to look into fusing the hock joint, which we can hope happens over time naturally but it could take 2 months or 2 years or 5 years, we don't know. The other option is injecting the hock with ethanol to fuse it. However, if it goes wrong, it could fuse the wrong part of the joint and she'll be even worse than before. She might not even be a candidate for this because they inject a dye first to see if they can get to the right place. (I'm cutting a lot out of this explanation but you get the point)
I'm really worried that this will go wrong or we won't be able to do it and we'll be out of options. Has anyone dealt with anything similar?
