How did you know you were ready to buy or lease ?

I've always wanted to ride, and I'm finally taking lessons in my mid twenties!

I obviously don't want to rush into anything, and I don't think I'll ever really be in a position to own my own horse, at least not for another 20 years or so! (Kids) I would love to eventually lease a horse, but I am curious when everyone felt ready to take on more responsibility.
