Horse scheduled for euthanasia Monday. Any tips for getting through the next day of dread?
My heart horse, an 18yo gray Mustang, has tumors all in his sheath that have been quickly growing and are protruding out, some as large as an egg, and one of them ulcerated this Thursday. He was mopey for two days before, but has never stopped eating. The vet gave him Bute for the weekend to keep him comfortable until we could get everything scheduled for Monday morning. I've been spending every moment possible with him, and he seems himself-hollering at the mares, eating, willingly running around the pasture. So while I know his attitude is due to the Bute, I'm having a hard time thinking about the fact that tomorrow is my last day with him. I've been a crying mess for days. How did any of you cope with knowing your horse's final day was coming? Especially when they seem to be feeling well?
