Stud behavior from a mare?
A horse I used to work with popped into my head today and I was wondering if anyone else had worked with something similar.
The horse was a 10-12yr old Appaloosa mare. She had a lot of stud behaviors.
She'd always sniff then poop on piles, always used the same spot in her stall. Sometimes she'd exhibit a flehmen response when checking piles in the paddock.
Super pushy, she was always corrected on it but being a pushy horse was just her nature.
Couldn't be turned out with most because she was ruthless to them. I actually had her breakdown a stall door, then run to the riding ring with teeth barred trying to get to a gelding she had a particular problem with. Just straight up territoral, there were a couple horses that were much bigger than her she could be turned out with.
She had a ton of attitude, would definitely bite/kick you.
She just had the personality of a rank stallion. I've worked with a lot of horses and never encountered a mare or gelding like that, only studs.
In hindsight I wonder if she maybe had something go on that increased testerone levels. Has anyone else encountered a mare like that?
