#horses - #Sticky situation - need to trailer 23-year-old horse to new home.

Sticky situation - need to trailer 23-year-old horse to new home.

I have an old running quarter that has lived in a pasture on my Dad's property for 20 years. He is a bit of a spooky horse - constantly worried due to some things that happened before I had him. He's only been trailered short distances a few times and he would get very nervous and sweat the entire ride. My Dad is ill and needs him moved to a new location so I'm renting a house with a big pasture (the horse has never been in a stall), but it's 45 minutes away. Any tips on the best way to make this move as easy as possible on my old guy? He's in great shape and the vet gave him a clean bill of health, but this is going to be a HUGE transition. I'm thinking about getting a goat as a pasture buddy in hopes that will make him happier and I'll be on site so he has some familiarity. I'll be asking my vet for advice also, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
