What would it look like if every episode had a situation that taught the opposite moral? I thought reversing the lessons might be an interesting way to analyze them.

Friendship Is Magic - Twilight hires help but their bickering and opposing plans/ideas misdirect her and slow her down

Ticket Master - Twilight finds it very easy to pick favorites

Applebuck Season - AJ learns she can do anything without help

Griffon the Brush Off - Pinkie doesn't intervene beyond being friendly/nice when her friend hangs out with a jerk and it makes things worse

Boast Busters - Twilight is proud of her talents and gets called a show-off

Dragonshy - Twilight learns one of her friends is just as useless as she initially thought. Said pony just curls up and cries when everyone's in danger

Look Before You Sleep - RD and AJ try to embrace each others differences but the differences have no redeeming qualities whatsoever

Bridle Gossip - Zecora's just as scary as she looked

Swarm of the Century - Twilight learns to stop listening to her friends opinions and perspectives, even when they make sense. 'Cause really, her friends are idiots.

Winter Wrap Up - Twilight learns that there are some times when you really are totally and completely talentless, and should just go stand in a corner. Also, some things are impossible even with teamwork.

Call of the Cutie - Applebloom is afraid something will lead to her being shunned. It does.

Fall Weather Friends - RD and AJ find they really don't see anything in one another that they care about more than their own ego.

Suited For Success - Rarity learns you can pander to every customer's taste, and still make it big mainstream. Twilight learns to be critical of any gift she receives, for if she's gonna get crappy gifts she'd rather have no gifts at all.

Feeling Pinkie Keen - Twilight believes in something she can't explain. Ends up part of a cult.

Sonic Rainboom - Rarity's wings don't get incinerated, she has the time of her life being cheered by thousands. Not being there for her friend was awesome.

Green Isn't Your Color - Sometimes giving away secrets is okay and sometimes you really should second guess sharing your true feelings with someone, even if you think they're a good friend.

And that's the end of today's sermon kids! Go forth and enjoy your stupid, sociopathic, emotionally unhealthy, antintellectual, slavish, controlling and occasionally scientifically backwards but still sometimes actually realistic lives!

My own commentes: Most lessons seem to depend on the kind of people you're dealing with, or sometimes the kind of person you are, but I think the morals become less situational at around season 4 (there's also more often more than one lesson).

There are reversed lessons that are true various percentages of the time, some are very situational, others less so.

It's also interesting to note that without introspection, some episodes that could've easily resulted in ponies learning the lesson "This pony is crazy." Lesson Zero for example had Twilight's friends learning to take another's worries seriously where all too often in real life they would've simply seen Twilight as a nut that freaks out.
