Ground work
I'm restarting my boy (he's 12 this December) from the ground up. I've watched a handful of YouTube videos of different trainers and applied some of that knowledge today, to which I had phenomenal results. I realize I was confusing my poor boy with my body language vs what I was asking.
He has a minor issue with turning in at the lunge (doesn't respect the bubble and/or stops because he wants to be done) and turns his head away while working to look at things rather than listen to me. How can I go about fixing this?
I dropped the use of the whip, so my tools are the halter and lunge he's attached to. I won't use the whip again, as it makes him nervous and the point of the new take at lunging is to get his head down and back relaxed.
I don't want to long line him just yet, but I understand that could be a good way to gain control of his head. Doesn't fix the stopping and turning in problem though.
I really feel like we took a huge step forward with the progress he and I made today, but there are some minor tweaks for both of us still.
