The Pony Playlist Project Proposal
Hello, lovely folks of /r/mylittlepony! First of all, Happy Thanksgiving!
So, we're in the thick of the hiatus, and that means we need things to do around here, more than usual. Thankfully, I've had this idea brewing for more than a year and it's finally time to put it to fruition.
Every now and then, a thread pops up like "what non-pony music do you associate with a certain character/s?" or "what kind of music do you think the Mane 6 listen to?", etc. etc.
And I love those kinds of threads. So much so, that I got to thinking. What if we had a definitive, community-curated series of musical playlists dedicated to each of our favorite little ponies?
Which is why today, I'm proposing a new weekly NPT segment, run by yours truly, for the hiatus, entitled The Pony Playlist Project.
It's essentially a fun way to combine my own two greatest interests, Ponies and music, and give us something fun and community-building to do during the hiatus, as well as an opportunity for us to all share our various musical tastes and maybe help each other discover and get into new music.
So here's how it'll work: there will be two music submission threads per Thursday, both for the same character; one for Pony music (songs from the show/movies and, especially, songs from the fandom) and one for non-Pony music (literally everything else), where you share in the comments any number of songs, artists, and/or genres you associate with the given character.
After we've done the full Mane 6, I will post a big megathread of all six ponies' playlists, including the full track list for each playlist via Pastebin, so you may feel free to mirror the playlist on your streaming service or music player of choice. I will also be posting two versions of the finished playlists: one on YouTube, which will be the "definitive" version as most fandom songs are available on YT, and a mirror on Spotify for my fellow Spotify users, featuring all tracks from the playlist that are available on Spotify (and that I happened to already have downloaded beforehand). If you do mirror the playlists on another service, do tell in the comments so others who use that service can use it and I can add it to the main post (I will credit you).
Now, as to the purpose of this thread right here; obviously, a good community event needs participation. This project will be no good if I only get like 5 comments per thread, so the purpose of this thread is to drum up some hype beforehand and see how much of this sub is interested in this project before actually diving in.
For the record (heh), I'll be using my usual listing order for the Mane 6: Twilight -> Rainbow Dash -> Pinkie Pie -> Fluttershy -> Applejack -> Rarity. And before anyone gets on my ass, this order has nothing to do with personal preference, it's just how I've always ordered them in list form. Rarity is great, don't worry.
And because I want to keep this going throughout the hiatus, obviously if the Mane 6 threads go well enough we will be doing more threads for other characters after the Mane 6, and we will be doing them in batches, the results threads posted in between batches. Some I'm thinking of are:

And some guidelines to follow:
There is no limit to the amount of music you may submit per thread. I'm serious. The more the merrier, in fact. You can just post a single song name or a whole comment of 50 songs each with a 3-paragraph essay on why you associate each song with the character and anything in between or beyond. Feel free.
Please no ironic/purely jokey submissions. Like, all that stuff about how Fluttershy secretly listens to super intense metal or whatever? Yeah, I've heard it. Every time I click on a submission about Fluttershy listening to music I know exactly what the top comment is going to be. Like, yes. I get the joke. It is very funny. Please don't spam the Fluttershy thread with that kind of thing unless you have a damn good unironic reason for the association. Those comments won't even be considered for the playlist otherwise and you'll just be wasting everyone's time.
Try not to post duplicates. Like, if there's this one song you just so closely associate with multiple characters you can't limit it to just one then that's fine. But keeping your submissions for each character diverse would be much appreciated.
