A couple of questions I've been meaning to ask y'all!

Hey y'all! I have a few questions that I've been meaning to ask since I don't know many equestrians. 1. I'm getting my mare back from a 30 day refresher, where she has been ridden 4 days a week. I sent her to a trainer because she kicked and bucked when asked for speed (trot/canter). What should I expect and how can I ensure that she doesn't regress? 2. I am getting a new mare, a 20 year old leopard Appy with impeccable manners and training. She has only been ridden once in the past two years so she has no muscle. How can I build muscle on her without overworking her? 3. Are there any padded western saddles that y'all love? I need a 16 or 17 inch seat with thick padding because of my scoliosis.

Toronto Police Service mounted unit, winter patrol

This is a video of the Toronto Police Service mounted unit, on a typical winter day patrol in the biggest city in Canada. In this particular day the temperature was minus 35 Celcius.

TPS mounted officers are all volunteers, who have a minimum of 5 years of Police experience . They are riding horses that have been purchased by either private citizens , or Toronto sports teams, like the Blue Jays, Maple Leafs, and Toronto Foot Ball Club. The mounted unit covers the whole city, all 240 square miles of it. They do regular policing, as well as parks patrols and crowd and parade events.

Horse Trailer Necessities


Horse Trailer Necessities

We are buying our first horse trailer! We finally won't be limited to borrowing a friend's and will be able to take our 3 off the property! It has LQ and 4 horse capacity.

What are some things you keep in your trailer at all times. (We're planning on using it every weekend or so Spring/Summer/Fall)

I already figured:

  • First-aid (human and horse)
  • 4 halters (to match number of stalls)
  • 4 leads
  • 4 trailer ties
  • buckets
  • a couple of moving blankets
  • flashlight
  • etc

But was curious, what ya'll keep in your trailers?
