My 14 year old Quarter Horse mare has been coughing for about two months now.
I had the vet out shortly after I noticed it and he told me it did not sound like heaves. He suggested limiting her exposure to dust anyway to see if that helped. Otherwise she was given a clean bill of health. I moved her to an outside stall with the best air circulation on the farm (previously her stall was the first one next to the indoor arena). I started watering her hay and bedding to reduce dust there (we use sawdust for bedding). I also started mixing pelleted bedding in to further reduce dust.
She has been going on and off her feed. Sometimes she just eats hay, other days she just eats grain, a few times she won't eat anything. There has been no change in the quality or quantity of the hay or grain. About two weeks after the vet visit I started adding 1/8-1/4 cup of flaxseed oil to her grain once a day (vet approved) to see if that would help with inflammation. She was off her feed before this so I know it was not the culprit, she's eating it now with no problem.
Her temperament has been completely normal. At no time has she run a fever. No other horses in the barn are sick and there are no new arrivals.
The vet's best guess is allergies but he can't seem to tell me if there is anything we can do about it.
What are your thoughts?

Hello everypony! I don't consider myself to be like a "brony" or "pegasister" or anything. I just really love the series.
I was introduced to it by someone very special to me. He would send me memes or songs to make a point or make me feel better. Then he showed me some fan stuff. Then I did some looking on my own and saw how awesome the fan art and music is. He kept asking me to give the show a watch and I kept putting him off.
See, I am a loathsome cynic and I was afraid I would be too cynical to like the show. And if it turned out I did not like it, I would have to tell this very special person that I disliked something he loved. But I love cartoons and am opened minded and appreciated this person so much that I decided to give MLP a shot. The cynic in me is embarrassed to publicly admit that the first episodes, "Friendship is Magic," literally made me cry. Then I was hooked.
I am an autistic adult, no kids, not really anything but a nerd with a bunch of nerdy interests. I have seen every episode 3-4 times and finally the movie twice. I have not seen the Equestria Girls movies yet.
I just love what the fans have created on their own. Gun to my head, my favorite pony is Fluttershy, though I'm not a picking favorites type of person. I adore Spike. I am not a Rarity fan. I just really love the show. I can't wait to explore it more. Thanks.
I remember when I first started watching the show, I couldn't help but find it a little creepy how whenever a pony turned to face the camera, it would look almost like a human face with horse ears (albeit stylized, like in the Powerpuff Girls).
I got used to it, of course, but I'm curious to know if anyone else noticed.
