Let me start out by saying this is a rescue, not a normal boarding facility or a riding barn. I get it, we get people who don't have much horse experience. I started out that way. This woman was leading a horse out and he tried to eat the hay. He can't chew the hay because he barely has teeth, but he literally just pulled away, hard, to get to it. I pushed his head (not hard) so he was facing forward again. The woman snaps at me and says "BE GENTLE." Me pushing a horse's head away from the hay (that he can't chew anyway) is considered "mean"? Then she was telling me to be careful around this one horse. "I heard she's mean. Be careful. But she hasn't done it to me yet." Ok, then what was that about her pushing you around to eat the grass?

The US Equestrian Federation has made a decision to ban CBD for horses in competition. Their primary reason is that CBD is "likely to effect the performance of a horse due to its reported anxiolytic effects." Anxiolytic means it reduces anxiety. They literally banned the supplement primarily because it makes horses less anxious. The USEF is proud that "[s]ince its inception in 1917, US Equestrian has been dedicated to pursuing excellence and promoting growth, all while providing and maintaining a safe and level playing field for both its equine and human athletes." Providing a safe playing field while banning a very safe and natural supplement that reduces anxiety. A bit oxymoronic in my opinion...
I am a long time breeder and competitor with APHA, AQHA and NSBA. I have served leadership roles in state breed associations, volunteered countless hours to help with shows and management, and tried my hardest to promote a safe horse experience without the use of dangerous equine medications and supplements. CBD has proved to be anxiolytic with my herd, not to mention reducing incidences of colic, ulcers and joint injuries. It does not depress or slow down the horse at all. It seems to make them more focused, and definitely less anxious. This decision is absurd, and is not in the best interest of the industry.
I would like to hear thoughts from this community, as I plan to circulate a petition along with a recommendation for rule change to all equine associations. Any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time!

Hi all, I've got some laminitis questions. I'm wondering how quickly laminitis sets in, and if irregular feeding can cause it? Say if a horse were fed a 5 gallon bucket of soaked alfalfa pellets/beet pulp/grain/etc. several days and then not again for several days over several months? Could that cause laminitis eventually, even after the feeding stopped totally, or could it cause laminitis (if it could) only while it was being fed?
Also, is mild stocking up in all four legs a symptom of laminitis? What about foot sensitivity on gravel/rocks but not on soft grass?
My horse is having issues and I'm wondering. The farrier has been out since it started and didn't see anything when I asked, but it was my first time using him so I don't know how good he is at spotting things. I'm going to have the vet out soon but I'm wondering in the mean time.
