Every MLP Season Scored and Ranked by Spreadsheet

Hello fellow fans! Today I was asked a question: what is your favorite season of MLP? I realized this was NOT as easy a question as I expected. I was urged to find an objective way to answer this, so, I went and created a spreedsheet to help me out.

The rules are as follows:

Below average episodes receive 0.5 points

Average episodes receive 1 point

Great episodes receive 1.5 points

Stellar episodes receive 2 points

Personal favorite episodes receive 2.5 point

Two-part episodes receive an extra point because... more pony.

As far as criteria goes, I went mostly on entertainment value, but also made sure to factor in episodes that had important character/plot building.

Aaand... The results:

1. Season 5 (43 points)

2. Season 4 (42 points)

3. TIE Season 1 (42 points)

4. Season 6 (41 points)

5. Season 2 (40 points)

6. Season 7 (38.5 points)

7. Season 3 (21.5 points)

Season 8 (29 points)

Observations

• Despite the echoes of some fans, the numbers are actually remarkably consistent across the board, with season 7 dipping just slightly. Assuming season 8 finishes strong, it will be in fair range of the others (and I hope the same for season 9!)

• Season 1 and 2 had no below average episodes.

• Season 3 obviously comes last due to having half the amount of episodes; however, if it did have 13 more episodes with consistent quality it would have placed at the top.

• I was surprised at the low rating of season 2 considering it is a fan favorite. Perhaps I rated some of them unfairly; feel free to be the judge of that.

NOTES

- I am a biased person who has opinions; yours may wildy vary. Notice how I gave extra points to personal favorites.

• I am also quite generous and find it very hard to not enjoy pony, hence the lack of below-average scores. That being said, there are quite a few episodes I had to give -0.5 or +0.5 against my own will in an attempt to put aside my bias (example Buckball Season and Rarity Investigates were really hard for to give a lower rating to.)

• My scoring system might not make sense. I could've taken an extra couple hours and done 1-10 ratings but that would of been a bit much for me.

• I only rated season 8 up to Road of Friendship, as I don't feel I can make a fair opinion on the new episode yet.

• A couple of the episodes towards the end of season 7 aren't super fresh on the mind, so take those ratings with a bit of salt.

• I love Starlight episodes. They were rated very generously and I feel they were all well deserved, but you are welcome to disagree. Fame and Misfortune also received a personal favorite ranking, so yeah.

Conclusion

I have heard a lot of talk about a "decline" in quality throughout the seasons, and after making this spreadsheet, I would have to disagree. I will agree that the quality has gotten a bit less consistent throughout seasons, but I think there is still a plethora of fantastic content throughout every season.
