"Our five-year-mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no pony has gone before!"

SCENARIO

Celestia reveals to the Mane Six (and Starlight) (and Trixie) that Equestria has discovered evidence of multiple, unknown civilizations.

Celestia wants the Mane Six (and Starlight) (and Trixie) to explore these new worlds.

There are four "areas" to potentially explore:

Space: Canterlot scholars have learned of multiple alien civilizations out there in the blackness of space. Whoever chooses this mission will see weird aliens, interstellar empires, space battles, beautiful cosmic phenomena and general space opera goodness.

Ocean: There are apparently multiple nations of bizarre, intelligent and unknown lifeforms under the surface of Equestria's oceans. Whoever chooses this mission will see bizarre deep-sea creatures, handsome merstallions and pretty merponies, enormous squids, beautiful underwater cities and other good undersea adventure stuff.

Dimensions: The existence of other dimensions has been known for centuries, but ponies have only been able to access "sister" dimensions, realities that resemble Equestria despite differing histories or majority species. Canterlot scholars have recently invented a way to explore truly bizarre realities. There's no telling what somepony who chooses this mission would possibly encounter.

Time: Billions of year ago, ponies did not exist, but there exists proof that the planet was still home to various powerful civilizations. Whoever chooses this mission will be sent back in time to explore the Equestria of the past.

Celestia splits the group into four pairs (Twilight-Pinkie, Applejack-Rarity, Rainbow-Flutters, Starlight-Trixie).

Each pairing will be accompanied by a group of Royal Guardsponies for additional protection (no one knows it yet, but their actual job is to be "redshirts", ponies who can die so the audience knows that the important characters are in serious danger).

Each mission comes with a fancy, large, magically-powered vehicle that can comfortably transports twelve dozen ponies: A starship, a submarine, a time machine and a "dimension machine".

Which pairing would end up choosing which mission?
