Looking at horse with sesamoid injury. Waiting for X-rays, but am curious to see what you all think?

Horse is 15, OTTB, got he injury when he was younger and racing. Has had a small successful career in the hunter ring and equitation. Injury seems to be mild, trainer stated he will occasionally come out stiff and will put him on equiox for a week or two. I rode him, he was great. Very tolerant. It was my first time riding after a broken ankle and 6 months off. He was a very good boy. Jumped him a little, has a great little jump. I'm looking for an older school master type, and he's the one. Will jump not then 2'3" 1-2 times a week (as long as he's comfortable), and the occasionally local show. Owner wants 4,500. In the past when I've gotten a serviceably sound horse it was mostly for free or on a free lease. Of course I am going to consult my vet, but having dealt mostly with warmbloods I haven't dealt with a sesamoid injury before. After the vet check, if the vet clears him with a mild injury with no further damage done to tendons, would you pay 4,500 or bargain?
