#horses - #Hay Pellets?

Hay Pellets?

Hey there Reddit!

I just moved my boy from New Mexico to Florida and it's been a huge transition for him and my checking account. In New Mexico, he ate a base grass blended hay pulled from a round bale 3x day and had a dry lot pasture.

Now in Florida, he has about 30 acres of beautiful green grass to snack on. We are working on slowly transitioning him to a grazing schedule to avoid some upset stomachs, but his stall (indoor box with a great outdoor run) has grass in it as it is so it's largely unavoidable. It's been a couple of days and he's taking it all in stride, the only problem being the coastal hay that the barn feeds. It appears to be similar in nutritional value and texture to the New Mexico hay, but my boy picked around it. This appears to be our new standard and for the cost of hay out here as it is, I want to think of some alternatives before switching to another hay that may be of a similar quality.

So my question is, does anyone feed pellet hay in place of their horses morning/afternoon feeding? He could be able to graze the entirety of the day on grass and may have grass available in his run depending on how it holds up.
