How to rename your horse? Should you?

Tragically, one of my two beautiful horses drowned two days ago in an unexpected flood. Our family is devastated, as our horses are our family just as a person or dog would be. The ranch manager is keeping his stall open for us for a little bit so we can move in a new horse if we choose (it's right next to our other horse), but as long as it's unoccupied they are losing money.

This leads me into the horse we're looking at now. He's already a horse I'm familiar with, as he's boarded in the same place we board. His owners are planning on selling him because he's too expensive to look after, and my family already loves him because of how sweet and docile he is. The only problem is he has like, the worst name ever. Seriously, it's pretty dumb, and there's no names I can think of that sound phonetically similar and not equally as stupid.

We renamed the horse that passed away when we first got him from Monkey to Monty and it worked fine because they sounded the same, but I'm not sure how to go about renaming a completely different name. All of the horses at the ranch know their names and to come when called, which makes this a bit more complicated.
