#horses - #Loss of the youngest

Loss of the youngest

Our visiting Daughter came in and said one of the horses refused a carrot. Impossible. She doesn't know them well as we got them after she left. I went out and immediately saw who of the seven it was. The youngest born 12 years earlier in the stall next to where I stood. She was covered in dirt from rolling and I knew it was Colic. The Vet made it here 5 hours later and immediately saw how serious it was. She was in shock with a 104.5 temp and 1 hour earlier she was a 101. Her intestines had ruptured. She was gone within 2 hours. Her Mother, close by over the fence, witnessing all the attention and oddly calm despite always being at her side in the corral for all those years. Never stop learning from these amazing animals.
