Does anyone here have any information, links or book recommendations detailing how war horses were trained at any point in the 4000 year history of horses in warfare?

The earlier the better, I'd be particularly interested in anything from ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Levant, Greece or Rome, but I'd be happy to learn anything on the topic really. I'm really curious how horses were trained to run into battle with a heavily armoured man on their back (or even behind them in a chariot) with terribly frightening sights and sounds all around them, as it's my experience that horses, even well trained horses like our family's ponies, are quick to scare and keen to run.
