#horses - #Does a turn out area have to be completely cleared?

Does a turn out area have to be completely cleared?

Alright, long story short, we're currently considering a property with a bit less than 14ac of total land, with 1.25ac cleared (house and small shed in the middle).

We are considering 2 donkeys or a donkey/horse pair (already bonded). Rescues only, no minis, not used for guarding, and probably not even for riding.

We are considering some other animals down the road, but much smaller ones and after some time has passed. I would ask on r/donkey but it's seemingly scarce on participants. So I'm here. Any suggestions for subreddits that you guys think could help would be greatly appreciated.

We aren't planning to only let them graze, I fully intend on supplementing as needed with concentrates, hay, etc. With this in mind, how much space would they need and does it have to be completely cleared/only grass?

The surrounding area is mostly pine trees and brush, so lots of room to move throughout the forest. I would rather not have to clear a bunch more land, but obviously would if we needed to.

I'll post a picture of the property with a rough shape of the property lines (it's an educated guess, I don't have anything from the county).

Thanks in advance!
